Ruta 40
31 October 2025 We were up early today. We have 630 km route 40 to get to our next destination the stretch of road we are arriving today is the famous part of Route 40 because of it 200 km section of ripeo. It is also notorious for the wind that comes off the mountains . We had filled up the bikes yesterday. Our intention was to re-top of the tank at Tres Lagos before heading up an old section of the road. Our plans are changed when the fuel station was closed. After Tres Lo

El Chalten
This morning we were up early not because we had to be because we only have 280 km to go today up Route 40 to el Chalten. We are up because we have a few administrative duties to perform. For some reason Tim‘s insurance policy for Argentina did not go through correctly and we would need to renew this prior to leaving today. So we load up the bikes and headed into town to find the payment office for the insurance. We stopped and had a coffee and a cinnamon bun and then dropped

Perito Moreno Glacier
We awoke to another blue sky day. Our plan today is to ride out to the bPerito Moreno Glacier. it’s only 120 km in each direction there and back and we are staying in the same hotel again tonight. So we get to ride our motorcycles without them having to be fully loaded with all of our equipment. The glacier is one of the largest tourist attractions in Argentina. It stems from the Southern Patagonia ice sheet similar to the one on Lake Grey that we viewed a few days ago . The

El Calafate
Our time in Torres del Paine is over. We have had a fabulous three days in this amazing hotel and in this incredible national park. I can only say to anyone who reads this, you need to visit. We had our final breakfast and said goodbye to the staff who have looked after us unbelievably well. We packed our stuff and loaded our bikes again. It will be great to get back on the motorcycles. The weather today is incredible without a cloud in the sky and the massif is looking unbel

Torres del Paine
We are excited today. Along our 10 week journey we have booked to stay at four really nice hotels for a few nights. Most of our days are spent in wherever we can find accommodation. And whilst these are often quite nice, today we are going up a notch. Torres del Paine is one of the most important protected wilderness areas in Chile. It is located between the Andy’s mountains and Patagonia step. It has an area of 227,300 acres and comprises of the pain mountain range and it’s

Puerto Natales
We are leaving Punta Arena this morning to head to Puerto Natales. Puerto Natales is a port city on the Señoret Channel in Chile’s southern Patagonia. It’s the gateway to Torres del Paine National Park to the northwest, and the port for boats touring the Patagonian fjords. We went to our usual breakfast stop ,wake up., which we have found serves great coffee and avocado and poached eggs on toast. We got there just as they were opening at 7 am and got our usual window seat. I

Punta Arenas
Today we have to start early, we have to reach Provenir by 1 pm because we have a ferry booked to take us to Punta Arenas at 2 pm. So we were up at 6 am,packed the bikes in very cold weather and very strong wind and then marched fully dressed into breakfast to have the usual not very exciting offerings. We set off out of town encountering strong winds and made our way to the Argentina / Chile border. We did our usual paperwork exchanges and we’re back into Chile. We wanted to

Rio Grande
We are leaving Ushuaia again today. but we only have 230 km to go until Rio Grande which is still in Tierra del Fuego. We have to do this short section today because there is not enough time to go the full distance to catch the ferry in Provenia,Chile to take us to Punta Arenas. so we are having a staging post stop tonight and will leave early tomorrow morning. The road out of Ush was bathed in amazing sunshine this morning as we rode through the valleys surrounded on each si

Ushuaia
17 October 2025 Feeling the effects of Patagonia beer, we had a hasty breakfast and decided to get on the road. Today our destination is Ushuaia. This is somewhat of a motorcyclists dream destination. One of those places that is almost mythical along with others like Prudhoe Bay, Cape Town and North Cape. It also holds special significance for me because of my time with the expedition cruise industry and having spent so much of my life there during the late 90s and early 20

17th October 2025 KTM ?? Here we go again! Today we are heading for the end of Route 40. A place called Cabo Virgines The temperature is now dropping every day and today it was 4° when we loaded our bikes and headed off to the petrol station to fill up for the morning. We rode out of town and we were immediately confronted by a large traffic jam, which was due to a protest on one of the bridges out of Rio Gallegos. We have no idea what they were protesting against, but they h

Rio Gallegos
16th October 2025 Having slept the night on a bunkbed, which was located right outside Tim‘s bedroom door I was more than happy to wake up, get dressed and get ready to leave this morning. Today we have another 380 km road run all the way down to Rio Gallegos. There is not much to see in this desolate section of Patagonia and one of our conversations during our ride was why or how that these towns exist. They are anything between 300 and 500 km apart and without knowing the h

Puerto St Julian
15th October 2025 I woke up at 5 am to the sound of the wind howling outside the hotel windows. Having tried to sleep a little longer I noticed a message from Tim to say that he was already up and had had breakfast. I think both of us were worried about today having felt the full blast of Patagonia‘s winds yesterday. We said goodbye to our new friends and headed off to find petrol for what was to be quite a long day. We were supposed to visit the petrified forest in the middl

Comodoro Rividavia
13 October 2025 I woke up at 6:00 a.m. and walked out to go to the bathroom only to find Tim sitting in a chair fully dressed and ready to go eating a bag of nuts. Is this really what I’ve gotta put up with for the next two months? Talk about keen . Today we are riding Ruta provincial no 1., almost all the way to Commodoro Rivadavia. we had had a lot of wind overnight and I personally was not feeling in the mood for another 260 km of off-road riding. We decided to do it anyw

Puerto Camerones
12th October 2025 I woke up to birds nesting on my roof. I'd heard them all night and wondered what the hell was going on. I went out and checked the situation. It was some incredible bluebirds that had found a hole in the sheet metal, and we were making a home... It would be another glorious day, and after breakfast, we proceeded to load our bikes again for what would be 191 km off-road to Puerto Cammerones. It's difficult to describe riding on the Ripeo surface because the

Trevelin and Dos Pocos
11th October 2025 After I had a somewhat hectic day yesterday, we were looking forward to a quiet day as we headed towards Dos Pocos, which is a small ranch around 100 km south of Trevelin. We are back on Ruta 3 heading south again. The long straight endless road stretches out in front of us and all we can do is engage cruise control and push through the miles. Trelew is a Welsh settlement town which states back several hundred years to when Welsh immigrants arrived and set u
