Yesterday, we took a day off to do various administrative things in Puerto Madryn. It is not worth listing what we did here so we have skipped this day in our blog.

Today we are moving to Puerto Piramides which is on the Valdez Peninsula.. the Valdes Peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is rightly famous for its marine wildlife which is abundant on the shores of this peninsula. It is most well-known for a group of Orca whales which have learned to beat themselves in order to catch sea lines or sales.. It is approximately 110 km from Puerto Madryn and so will only take us about an hour and a half to ride.
We had to stop at the gate to pay our entrance fee and then around about 20 km later, we stopped again to look at the visitor center. This was under renovation and Tim could immediately see the possibilities for building work here.
We carried on into Puerto Pimamides, stopping to put our trip sticker on the sign with everybody else’s and to take photos of the view over the town. The town itself was originally a salt mining village but has now found its feet by offering whale watching excursions in the Golf of Nuevo.
The boats are launched via a very flat sandy beach into the shallow water and the ingenious methods for doing this are a site to see. Huge tractors push the boats with extended trailers out into the water. The boats are then launched and recovered in the same way the trailer is also feature a loading system for passengers. The amount of people coming through here on a daily basis was incredible.

The town itself is small and sort of hippie like in nature with many small shops and cafes all serving high-quality expensive food and drinks. We had lunch at a seafront seafood restaurant which was slightly disappointing considering it’s location.

We had rented a small two bedroom apartment and so we unpacked our things and headed into town.. we stopped and had a couple of beers and watched the sun go down into the ocean and then headed back very early to watch some advert laden TV on the Argentinian stations and went to bed very early.
